On Wednesday October 5, 2016 it was pitch day. What pitch you may ask? For my Individuals and Society (aka I and S) (social studies) class we had to choose a topic that affects the environment that we were very passionate about.
I chose going paperless in a school. This topic is near and dear to my heart because most schools waste over one million pieces of paper each year and I think that this is completely unnecessary and we need to fix this issue.
The pitch had to be between one and two minutes which was a problem for me because I had so much to talk about. The reason why we were limited to this amount of time was because we are scheduled to present a Ted Talk that is supposed to be five to ten minutes worth of content about our chosen topic. The pitch was simply an intro to the Ted Talk.
The problem was which of my information will I use for the pitch and which information will I save for the Ted Talk? In the end, I was able to condense my information to fit the time limit.
When it got to October 5th at 2:15 P.M. (which is when I have my I and S class) I asked the teacher to go first because I really wanted the set the standard and I wanted to go first without anxiously waiting for the rest of the class. This is why I named the blog post starting pitcher because I was the first one to pitch out of my entire class.
I was so happy that I went first because I got to set the bar and it felt really good to be the first person to take a risk in the class and it boosted my public speaking confidence for the Ted Talk.
In conclusion, I am really happy with how my pitch went and I cannot wait for my Ted Talk.
